OVERVIEW
Alliance Golf isn't your typical golf management company.
The Northeast-based operator runs five golf facilities across Massachusetts and Connecticut, with over 1,000 acres of property, 300+ golf events, roughly 75 weddings, and nearly 250,000 rounds of golf a year. In season, that's 400 employees and more than $20 million in annual revenue.
And that's just the golf. Every property comes with a restaurant, a pro shop, a liquor license, inventory, memberships, and its own legal entity, each generating its own stream of receivables, payables, and payroll.
"We've had people drive through buildings. We've had floods, lightning strikes, frozen pipes, trees fall on clubhouses. There's never a dull moment in hospitality."
As Alliance Golf grew, leadership knew accounting couldn't become one more fire to put out.
THE CHALLENGE
For Managing Partner Josh McKim, accounting wasn't just time-consuming, It was time stolen from the work that actually grew the business.
Running a portfolio of golf properties already meant bouncing between operations, staffing, legal, guest experience, and maintenance all day. On top of that, Josh was functioning as the company's de facto CFO, overseeing accounting, reporting, and tax coordination himself.
Before Zeni, that added up to 24 to 36 hours a week. Reporting was manual: pulling data from separate systems and stitching it into custom spreadsheets by hand. Credit card reconciliation alone could eat an entire weekend, chasing receipts, following up with property managers, and coding expenses across a half-dozen entities.
"We have so much to worry about. Just having this one thing that we never have to worry about anymore is incredibly relieving."
Alliance Golf didn't need a bookkeeper. They needed an accounting operation that could scale with the business without eating more of leadership's time.
FINDING THE RIGHT PARTNER
Josh looked at several accounting providers before Zeni. Most could handle straightforward bookkeeping, but Alliance Golf isn't straightforward. Between golf operations, hospitality, weddings, retail, memberships, and multiple entities, the business needed a partner who could actually handle the complexity, not route around it.
Credibility mattered just as much. With $20 million in revenue and investors who expect precision, there was no room for error on tax compliance or financial accuracy.
"What really made us choose Zeni was the credibility of the company. We needed more than a controller — we needed an entire organization behind the accounting."
Rather than force Alliance Golf into an off-the-shelf process, Zeni built one around them, designing AI workflows for cash handling, inventory, recurring memberships, receivables, payables, and reporting from the ground up.
"We designed the entire system with Zeni before we even started this process."
And on price: "We pay a good price for an amazing service. I don't want you to be a value play, because what you provide is a Rolls Royce product."
TIME BACK, NOT JUST FASTER BOOKS
The biggest change wasn't faster bookkeeping. It was getting Josh's time back.
With Zeni's AI-native finance platform and dedicated finance team handling day-to-day accounting, Josh no longer spends his weeks building reports, reconciling cards, or tracking down missing receipts. Management time dropped from 24–36 hours a week to just 4–6 across the entire portfolio.
Reporting got faster too. Where month-end close used to drag on for weeks, Alliance Golf now closes the books before the 15th every month, without fail.
"If we're not closed by the 15th now, it's because Zeni is waiting on us."
"What used to take me away from my family every month is now handled through the platform."
FROM ACCOUNTING FIRES TO GROWTH CONVERSATIONS
Before Zeni, financial questions dominated executive conversations. Now those conversations look different.
"We get to talk about new acquisition opportunities instead of asking, 'Where are the financials?'"
Instead of catching up on accounting, Josh and his team spend their time evaluating new golf properties, expanding into adjacent leisure businesses, and sizing up the next investment.
"I get to focus on improving our business instead of trying to catch up with something that should have already been done."
LOOKING AHEAD
Alliance Golf has no plans to slow down. As leadership explores new acquisitions and pushes beyond traditional golf operations, they know the accounting foundation is already built to support it.
"We can only pursue other divisions and other investments because of what Zeni is able to provide."
For Alliance Golf, this was never about replacing people with AI. It was about removing the friction, building confidence in the numbers, and giving leadership back something worth more than faster books.
"Zeni gave me my time."
